Cala violina
The beach of Cala Violina (“Violin’s Bay”) is one of the most popular beaches of Maremma and it is located within a nature reserve between the towns of Follonica and Punt’Ala. It is easily reachable by car but, since it only has a closed car park, we suggest you to reach the beach early in the morning. Once you have parked the car you will need to walk about 1.5 km through the pine forest so we recommend comfortable shoes. The water of Cala Violina is clear and crystalline, the beach is made up of very small and fine grains of quartz. The name of this place comes from the vibration that is emitted by the footsteps on the sand which recalls the delicate sound of a violin. There is no beach resort but just before the entrance to the beach, in the shade of the pine forest, a small stand sells drinks and sandwiches.
